One City government bought a very expensive drum of petroleum-based hydraulic oil before their spill; only they didnt know it. When a line broke and 5 gallons of hydraulic oil sprayed out and landed on the ground, they were on their way to paying a company $7,536 to clean it up (this is exclusive of the city’s OT man hours involved and the bad press for the Cityband Mayor). If my math is correct, the new drum of hydraulic oil cost about $460 and when added to the clean up cost, all in, the City paid $7,996 for 55 gallons of petroleum-based hydraulic oil. $145 per gallon For the drum. If you factor in just the 5 gallons, that works out to $1,705 per gallon.
